The Seiseralm is Europe's largest and highest alpine meadow.
Surrounded by some of the quintessential Dolomite formations, including the Geisler-Odle Gruppe (see previous post) to the north, the Sella Gruppe to the east, the Sassolungo Gruppe and the Rosengarten to the south, and Der Schlern/Sciliar to the West, being on this meadow is a singular and unique earthly experience. It so beautiful, it is surreal. I had to pinch myself several times while there - I had dreamt of coming here for so long. And we had perfect weather.
Biking, hiking, and of course imbibing and eating while watching bell-clad cows do their bovine thing Süd Tyrol style can keep one busy for, well, months. There is so much to see and do in this little corner of the universe: just to see each "eck" during the different light of the day, different weather and seasons, could take up a lifetime. There are actually two towns right in the middle of the Alm: Santa Christina and Wolkenstein (German for cloud-rock!) Yup, people live here every day of their lives!

To see the Alm in real time, right now (!), click HERE to go to the live panorama on Seiseralm. You can see the German and Italian names of each peak or group of peaks as the camera pans the Alm.
